Is there anything better than the first dance of the school year? Whether you’re a student who’s gearing up for their first homecoming dance or a parent who is trying to get their student prepare for this momentous high school moment, the homecoming look is a big deal!

To help you get ready for an evening of slow dances and so many selfies, here are our best homecoming beauty tips that’ll help you be the belle of the ball.

1. Care For Your Skin

Your dress is likely going to show a little bit of skin (sorry dad!) and you want every inch to be silky and smooth, which means it’s time to take extra special care of your skin.

To start, put an ultra moisturizing lotion all over when you get out of the shower in the morning and before you go to bed at night. You’ll also want to be sure that you are using a gentle daily cleanser to prevent any major breakouts before the dance. Lastly, if you’re going to try any new products for the dance, be sure to do this well ahead of time. The last thing you want is to have a bad reaction right before the dance.

2. Whiten that Smile

Unless you’re currently in braces, a great way to put your look over the top is by accentuating that gorgeous smile! Pick up a pack of white strips from the drug store and start the process a week or so before the big dance.

3. Don’t Forget About Your Fingernails (and Your Toes!)

Your fingernails are one of your biggest accessories at the dance, and you definitely don’t want to miss the opportunity to make them stand out. Cover them in a sparkly polish or put on a color that matches with your dress perfectly. Since it’ll still be fairly warm outside, you might also want to paint your toes if you’re planning on wearing open-toed shoes.

4. Deep Condition Your Hair

Homecoming hair means that there’s going to be a lot of hairspray, bobby pins, and hot hair tools that are going to be used, so it’s best to get your hair nice and prepped beforehand. One of the best ways to do this is by deep conditioning your hair using coconut oil once a week in the weeks leading up to homecoming.
