Spring is finally here and in full swing, and we think it's the perfect opportunity to change up your look. Spring is a time of renewal: The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and it's getting to be flip flop and sundress weather.  So in celebration of this new season, it might be time to consider cutting or coloring those gorgeous locks so you can get them looking lighter, brighter, and of course, fabulous.

If it's been a while since you've changed up your look (or maybe you're nervous about doing any drastic change), it's always a good idea to talk to your stylist beforehand to make sure that you are completely satisfied with the results. Here are a few tips on working with your hair stylist to get a new look for your hair.

Bring in Photos (Lots of Photos)

Have an idea of what kind of new hair look you want to go for? Perfect! Bring in the picture that inspired it all. Better yet, bring in several photos so that your stylist has the right idea of what you are wanting. When you are trying to change up your look, it's always better to be over prepared than having your stylist guess at what you want.

Don't be Afraid to be Completely Honest

When you're describing a new cut or color to your hair stylist, it's likely that she'll ask you several questions (like how many inches you want to cut off or whether you want warm or cool tones in your highlights). It's important to answer these questions as honestly as possible. If you think that her recommendations would be too short—say something! Above all, your stylist wants you to be comfortable and happy with the work she's doing, especially if you're doing something a little bit different than what you're used to.

Listen to Your Stylist's Expert Opinion

Your stylist knows hair. She's seen every type, shape, consistency, and style out there. While you should be honest and let her know exactly what your vision is, you should also listen to her recommendations.

For example, if you have really thin hair and you brought in photographs of models who all have thick hair as your desired "after" picture, she will tell you that yours will look a bit different and your results might not be what you're expecting. Listen to her recommendations on how to make your hair looks its best and chances are, you can't go wrong.
