Everything You Need to Know About Eyelash Extensions
If you pay attention to beauty trends, you know that eyelash extensions are quite literally popping up everywhere you look. Sky-high lashes have always been trendy, but now they're easier than ever to get thanks to the increased availability of eyelash extensions at salons (and a big bonus: no messy glue like with drug store falsies!).
If you weren't blessed with naturally long and curly lashes, eyelash extensions could be exactly what you need to create the look you want. But before you make that appointment, let's go over everything you need to know about eyelash extensions.
What Types of Eyelash Extensions Are There?
There are a few types of eyelash extensions available for you to choose from, such as silk, synthetic, and mink eyelash extensions. In addition to the different types of eyelash extensions, you can also choose different lengths which can range from 6–17 mm.
How Does the Application Process Work?
It takes about two hours to get eyelash extensions properly applied, and your aesthetician will be using an adhesive to attach the false eyelashes to your existing lashes. Contrary to popular belief, applying eyelash extensions does not damage your existing eyelashes.
Your eyelash extensions shouldn't need touching up for about three or four weeks after the original application. However, eyelash extensions are designed to last for approximately six to eight weeks, which is the average full growth cycle of your natural eyelashes. So, as your natural eyelashes grow and fall out, so will the extension attached to the lash.
Do I Have to Take Special Care of Them Afterwards?
It's recommended that you avoid any kind of water around your eyelashes for at least 48 hours after application. This means that you should avoid pools, steam rooms, spas, and vigorous exercise that will cause you to sweat. If you get your eyelash extensions wet it could cause clumping and give them a cake-y appearance.
